What is the APEC Business Travel Card?
The APEC Business Travel Card is for bona fide business travelers wanting to apply for the Asia-Pacific Economic Co-operation (APEC) Business Travel Card (ABTC) under the ABTC Scheme. The APEC Business Travel Card enables applicants to travel within the APEC economies.
What is the APEC Business Travel Card Scheme?
The aim of the ABTC Scheme is to enhance the free mobility of business travellers among the APEC economies, thereby promoting free-flowing business within all the participating countries. Check whether your country is represented in the ABTC Scheme in the list of APEC Card countries:
The APEC card countries participating in the Scheme are : (19 countries)
- Brunei Darussalam
- People’s Republic of China
- Hong Kong (China)
- Republic of Korea
- New Zealand
- Papua New Guinea
- The Philippines
- Chinese Taipei
The APEC Business Travel card is plastic and similar in size and shape to a credit card. It is normally valid for five years. Please note however that the APEC Business Travel Card is good for multiple visits of two to three months to participating economies.
Who Can Apply for the APEC Business Travel Card?
a. Malaysian citizen only.
b. The members of the Administration & Professional, The Dignitaries, Senior Government Officials or equivalent Senior Government Officials frequently travels to the Asia Pacific Region with APEC countries must be endorsed by the Ministry or Department concerned.
c. The members of the business and investment community who has activities of trade and investment with the (21) economies. The members of the business and investment community must be endorsed by the appointed regulatory agencies through a Supporting Letter.
Non Eligible Applicants
a. Name or Company in the criminal record of the applicant or the black list:
i. Royal Malaysian Police.
ii. Immigration Department of Malaysia.
b. Applicant from liability (Spouse or children).
c. Athletes, journalists, entertainers, musician’s artists or equivalent.
d. People who want to engage in employment or work while on vacation.
e. Enterprise status companies.
The APEC Business Travel Card Application Process
The APEC Business Travel Card application will be processed and reviewed in tandem with other participating APEC economies and countries. Therefore, the application form should be completed in capital letters and black ink, with the applicant’s photograph affixed on it. Attached the following documents must be included for successful APEC card application:
a. A Copy of applicant Identity Card.
b. A copy Malaysian Passport (validity minimum 3 years and above).
c. Recent passport sized photograph – 1 piece ( blue background ).
d. Application letter from the applicants Company (companies letter) with confirmation on :
a. Name / Date of Birth / Identity Card & Passport Number.
b. Number of Position In Company Justification applying for an APEC Business Card Travel.
e. Supporting Letter from the relevant Regulatory Agency.
f. RM 100 fee per applicant is charge during the card collection upon completed.

No visa is necessary and application for this card is low-cost and convenient for business travellers on the go. How to Renew the APEC Business Travel Card?
To renew the APEC Business Travel Card, submit a new APEC Business Travel Card application, with the fee and documents, and meet all the eligibility criteria. If your passport is replaced, renewed or misplaced, you must also renew your APEC Business Travel Card. For the APEC Card renewal, It will take at least three months to process your application.
